This lovely dress of medium weight white cotton batiste was hand made in Madeira, Portugal in the 1930s. It features tiny pintucking both front and back and incredible floral and openwork embroidery from the bodice to the scalloped hem. The neckline and hem are finished with scalloped embroidery. The dress closes in the back with two tiny bone buttons. The short puffed sleeves are finished with scalloped cuffs. The white batiste slip is scalloped at the neckline, armholes, and hem with additional embroidered detail above the hem. This elegant little dress is a truly beautiful example of Madeira's finest embroidery!
